HANOVER, N.H.—Dartmouth men's tennis opened its fall season this weekend as Bryant and Williams traveled to Hanover for three days of tennis.
Day One
The weekend started with six Dartmouth players earning singles wins.
Carlos Guerrero Alvarez won his first match of 2024 in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4 on court one. Waleed Qadir took his first win of the season 6-3, 6-2. Alex Knox-Jones won the first match on court five with a straight set win 6-4, 6-1.
Miles Groom had a successful first match as he won 6-4, 6-1 in his first match of 2024. Hikaru Takeda started his senior season off with a straight set win 6-2, 6-2. Fellow senior Zihao Yuan closed out the day for the Big Green with a 6-2, 6-1 win.
Day Two
Day two of the weekend started with eight doubles matches which was followed by seven singles matches. Dartmouth came away with six doubles wins and six singles wins.
The duo of Qadir and Groom opened the day with a 6-3 win over Williams.
Knox-Jones and Yuan earned a back-and-forth win as they won 7-5 in their first match of the day. The duo took their second match of the day with a 6-2 win over a team from Bryant.
Guerrero Alvarez and Takeda rebounded in their second match of the day after falling in their first match. The duo won 7-5 over a team from Williams to finish the day 1-1.
Xander Barber and Yujiro Onuma teamed up and took down a duo from Bryant to open their day and then downed a team from Williams to secure a 2-0 day.
In singles action Qadir won in straight sets 6-3, 7-5. Takeda picked up a straight set win 6-3, 6-2 over a Bryant player.
Barber took a commanding lead after one set winning 6-1 but then fell in the second set 6-2 to force a third set. In the tiebreaker, Barber secured a match win with a 10-3 win.
Yuan closed out an undefeated day in his singles match as he won 6-3, 6-1.
Guerrero Alvarez fell in the first set of his singles match but rebounded in the second set with a 6-3 win to force a third set. In the tiebreaker, he completed the comeback by winning 10-7.
Onuma also completed an undefeated day as he won 6-2, 6-2 in his singles match.
Groom closed out the day for the Big Green with a 6-4, 7-5 win for his second win of the day.
Day Three
The third and final day of the weekend featured both doubles and singles matches.
Qadir and Groom started the day in doubles for the Big Green as they took down a duo from Bryant 6-4.
Dartmouth's successful weekend continued as Guerrero Alvarez and Takeda won 7-6 in their doubles match while Knox-Jones and Yuan also won their doubles match.
Guerrero Alvarez and Takeda were the lone Big Green players to play a second doubles match, they completed a 2-0 day with a 6-1 win.
Onuma opened singles with a straight set win, 6-3, 6-0.
Groom closed out his weekend with a three-set win. He won the first set 6-4 before falling 6-3 in the second set. In the tiebreaker set, Groom won the match 10-7.
Qadir finished his weekend with a straight set win, 6-4, 6-4.
Yuan needed three sets in his final match of the weekend. After falling 6-4 in the first set he forced a third set with a 6-4 win. He dominated the third set with a 10-2 win.
In the final two Dartmouth match of the weekend both Barber and Guerrero Alvarez won in straight sets.

The Big Green are back in action as they travel to the ITA All American Championships in Tulsa, Okla. The event starts on Saturday, Sept. 21 and runs until Sept. 29.
