HAMDEN, Conn. – Following an overtime loss on Friday night, the Big Green retook to the ice looking to bounce back against another nationally ranked opponent, the No. 13 Quinnipiac Bobcats.
Despite only down one goal headed into the final frame, the Big Green were unable to find the back of the net, ultimately falling to the Bobcats, 3-0.
Quinnipiac got on the board just before the halfway mark of the first period, but the Big Green kept the Bobcats off the board for the next 45 minutes of play.
While the second period saw no goals scored, it was not for lack of offensive chances as the Bobcats tallied 18 shots on goal.
In only a one goal deficit, Head Coach
Maura Crowell's message to her team was simply that they were still in the game.
"To be in a one goal game against a really good [Quinnipiac] team, I thought they played really well tonight, was encouraging for us," Crowell said.
The Bobcats came out firing in the third period, but it was not until just over the 15-minute mark that they were able to capitalize again, making it 2-0 on the power play. Dartmouth pulled Michaela Hesová to try and generate some offense, but Quinnipiac found the empty net, sealing the 3-0 victory.
"We battled really hard. We gave them everything we had of everything we had today," Crowell said about Dartmouth's third period play. "We're going to be in these battles. So, another opportunity to pull the goalie and try to get something going there at the end. So, we continue to learn we continue to battle and improve from game to game."
Crowell also credited her first-year goaltender who continues to shine. Hesová made 38 total saves, including stopping all 18 she faced in the second period.
Dartmouth will return to action next weekend, travelling to Yale and Brown for its final regular season road games of the 2024-25 season. The focus for the Big Green, according to Crowell, is to continue to take care of themselves.
"Take care of ourselves, take care of our energy levels and all the good details away from the game so that we can play, you know, 65 minutes one night and maybe 65 minutes the next night," Crowell said. "That's the deal when you're on the road, you [have to] drive."
Puck drop against the Yale Bulldogs Friday, February 7 is set for 6 p.m., while the Big Green and Brown Bears will faceoff at 3 p.m. on Saturday, February 8. You can watch both games on ESPN+ or follow the live stats on DartmouthSports.com.
