MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – After a close loss to the Cougars Friday night, the Big Green returned to action at the College of Charleston, looking to even the series. Despite take a 3-1 lead in the third, the Cougars battled back, plating six unanswered runs to defeat the Big Green, 7-3.
Charleston opened the scoring in the second inning, leading off with a solo home run to take a 1-0 lead over the Big Green. It did not take long for Dartmouth to respond though, as it would score three runs in their half of the third inning to take a 3-1 lead.
With one out in the inning,
Elliot Krewson,
Taer Rodriguez, and
Jackson Hower knocked three straight singles to tie the game. Only one pitch into his at bat,
Ethan Brown ripped a double to left field, clearing the bases and giving Dartmouth a two-run lead.
The Cougars responded just as quickly though, collecting four extra base hits in their half of the third, two doubles, a triple, and a home run to retake the lead and make it a 4-3 game.
College of Charleston added a singular run in both the fourth, fifth, and seventh innings to extend its lead to four.
Dartmouth led off the ninth with a base hit, but a caught stealing on a strikeout eliminated any opportunity for the Big Green to chip away at the Cougars' lead, ultimately falling to Charleston 7-3.
Eddie Albert got the start for the Big Green, allowing six runs on eight hits in five innings pitched. He dealt two walks and fanned two batters.
Kyle Klaric-Schell made his third appearance of the season, allowing one run on three hits in two innings of relief. Klaric-Schell walked and struck out three batters.
Andrew Lombana was the final Big Green pitcher to take the mound Saturday, making his first career appearance for Dartmouth. Lombana threw a hitless, scoreless frame, fanning one batter.
