CAMDEN, N.J. – All four of the Dartmouth men's heavyweight rowing boats advanced to their respective AB semifinals in a successful first day of racing on Friday at the IRA National Championship.

The varsity eight began the day by winning its heat with a time of 5:32.560, ahead of Princeton in second (5:34.110) and Navy in third (5:39.510).

The second varsity eight also qualified for AB semifinals by coming in second in its heat (5:43.550), only trailing Princeton (5:40.050) and ahead of Boston University (5:46.210).

The 3V had a similar result in its heat, placing second (5:40.780), just over two seconds behind California (5:38.360) and more than seven seconds ahead of Brown (5:48.060).

The varsity four was strong in its time trial, coming in fourth overall (6:08.305). In its AB semifinal, the Big Green fell just short of reaching the grand final. Dartmouth finished in 6:19.910, just 0.15 seconds behind Penn in second (6:19.760) and just under a second behind Harvard in first (6:18.920).

Action continues on Saturday at the IRA National Championship. With heavy rain in the forecast overnight, racing has been pushed four hours later than originally scheduled. The varsity eight will now start at 12:40 p.m. with the 2V at 12:48, 3V at 1:12 and varsity four at 3:00.
