Former Big Green Coach Spent 27 Years At The Helm of Dartmouth Men's Tennis
MILFORD, N.H.—The New Hampshire section of the United States Tennis Association (USTA) announced that former Dartmouth tennis coach Chuck Kinyon will be inducted into the New Hampshire Tennis Hall of Fame.
Kinyon spent 27 years at the helm of the Big Green men's tennis program and accrued a record of 279-268-1. In 1993, Kinyon led Dartmouth men's tennis to its first Ivy League title after going 8-1 in Ivy play and 15-7 overall. 1997 brought Kinyon and the Big Green their second Ivy League title following an 8-1 Ivy League record and a 17-5 record. During his time at Dartmouth, 21 Big Green student-athletes earned All-Ivy honors while Matt Semler '92 (1992) and Dan Coackley '94 (1994) earned Ivy League Player of the Years under Kinyon.
During his time at Dartmouth, Kinyon served as the chairman of the NCAA Region I Coaches Committee while also helping to establish regional computerized rankings. In 1994, he was named USPTA Coach of the Year for the New England region while also being named ITA Region I Coach of the Year in 1995.
Kinyon first came to Dartmouth as the head coach for squash and the assistant coach for men's tennis. He spent nine years as the head men's squash coach and had a record of 64-62 which included a 10-5 record in 1981-82 that was a school record until 1997.
A native of Rochester, N.Y., Kinyon attended the University of Louisville from 1963-67 before earning his master's degree from Penn State in 1973. Prior to joining the Big Green, he was the squash and tennis coordinator at Phillips Exeter Academy from 1975-1980. In 2014, he was induced into the Dartmouth Wearers of the Green.
Kinyon will be in inducted into the New Hampshire Tennis Hall of Fame on Sept. 13 at the Hampshire Hills Athletic Center in Milford, N.H. The USTA N.H. is also hosting the NH Hall of Fame Doubles Championship on Sept. 13-14, interested parties can register by clicking here.
