HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth women's rugby team turned a halftime deficit into a statement win on Senior Day, scoring 24 unanswered points over the final half hour to beat Sacred Heart, 38-22, on Saturday, Oct. 24, at Brophy Field.
The Pioneers struck first, scoring in the 10th minute. The Big Green answered in the 28th minute, when Marley Larkin crossed the line and Annie Henrich's conversion put Dartmouth up 7-5. Sacred Heart responded quickly, though. A try and conversion just a few minutes later restored the Pioneers' lead at 12-7, and they held that edge going into the second half.
Dartmouth found its footing after the break. Senior Katie Hansen scored in the 54th minute, and Henrich's conversion put the Big Green ahead 14-12. Sacred Heart answered with a try in the 56th minute to go back in front, 17-14, but that was the last time the Pioneers led.
Vasiti Turagavou scored in the 59th minute, and Henrich's kick made it 21-17. Abygail Lambert extended the lead to 26-17 in the 63rd minute, and a try from Hough and another Henrich conversion in the 70th minute made it 33-17. Senior Cindy Taulava capped the run with a try in the 73rd minute for a 38-17 advantage. Sacred Heart added a late try at the end of the match.
Dartmouth's seniors were at the center of the comeback. Henrich, Hansen and Taulava combined for 18 of the Big Green's 38 points. Hansen, Lambert and Taulava each scored their first tries of the season, according to the team's stats through Oct. 19.
Henrich went 4-for-6 on conversions, bringing her season totals to 18 conversions and 54 points, both team highs. Larkin's try was her seventh of the year, also a team best.
The win is Dartmouth's third in a row and improves the Big Green to 4-2 on the season.
