SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Dartmouth women's hockey traveled to New York State this weekend for its final two games of the regular season, beginning with a matchup against the Union Garnet Chargers on Friday.
The Big Green played well for most of the game, including rifling 43 shots on net, but Union's goaltender was up to the task as the Garnet Chargers skated to the 1-0 victory.
Union scored just before the halfway mark of the first period, capitalizing on the power play at the 9:02 mark. It was the only goal either team would score for the remainder of the game.
Despite the 1-0 deficit, Dartmouth outshot Union 9-6 in the opening frame.
In the second period, the Big Green continued to put shots on net, tallying 12 to the Garnet Chargers five. Five of Dartmouth's 12 shots came on the power play. The Big Green had back-to-back power plays in the middle frame, with only seven seconds of 5-on-5 play in between, but the Big Green were unable to capitalize as it remained a one goal game in Union's favor.
Dartmouth continued to dominate and control the game in the third period, outshooting the Garnet Chargers, 22-4. The Big Green had one final power play opportunity early in the third period, but were unable to convert.
Head Coach
Maura Crowell did pull the goalie,
Jiahui Zhan, who made 14 saves on 15 shots, with just under two minutes to play in the third. Dartmouth had its chances, but Union held on for the 1-0 victory.
Crowell said her team got out to a slow start, but responded in the second, keeping their foot on the gas, helping contribute to the lopsided shot count and the 6-on-5 opportunity late.
Despite the response, Crowell emphasized her team needing to play a full 60 minutes.
"I do believe if we showed up for 60, the result would have been different. I liked our response in the last 40," Crowell said.
Playing a full 60 minutes will be an emphasis for the Big Green Saturday when they face the RPI Engineers in the final game of the 2025-26 ECAC Hockey season.
"[The focus is to] play the right way, the whole game. Play with the urgency that you played with in the last 20. Try to replicate that a little bit earlier, but more so, play hard," Crowell said. "Play Dartmouth hockey for 60 minutes and I think we will like the results."
Puck drop against the RPI Engineers on Saturday, February 14 is set for 3 p.m. You can watch the game on ESPN+ or follow the live stats on DartmouthSports.com.
