PRINCETON, N.J. – This past weekend, Dartmouth women's tennis hit the road for its first away matches of the spring season, traveling to Princeton for the ECAC Indoor Championship, competing in three matches.
The weekend kicked off on Friday against the Penn Quakers. In doubles play,
Peyton Capuano and
Michela Moore continued their dominant play at the first position, cruising to the 6-2 victory.
The third doubles match was the second to conclude, as
Josephine Lombardi and
Elise Wong fell, 6-3.
Doubles play concluded with a
Sam Grosjean and
Alexandra Orlins win at the second position, winning 6-4.
Grosjean's singles match was the first to conclude. She stayed undefeated on the day, taking the 6-0, 6-3 victory at fifth singles.
Fourth singles was the next match to conclude as Lombardi fell to Penn's Saw, 6-2, 7-5.
Capuano also impressed at singles on Friday. She won the first set at first singles, 6-4, dropped the middle set, before coming back to win the match, 6-2.
Orlins' third singles match concluded next, as the first-year won the first set 7-5 before falling in the next two sets 6-4.
Second singles and sixth singles were the final matches to conclude, as both went into tiebreakers. Moore's match at second singles wrapped first. Moore fell in the first set, 6-4 before winning the middle set 7-6, thanks to an 8-6 tiebreak win. She fell in the final set, 6-3.
At sixth singles,
Caroline Lemcke played in her first match of the day. She won the first set 6-4, but Penn's Vedula came back to win the second set, 6-4. Lemcke forced the tiebreaker in the final set, but fell 7-6 (6-5).
Despite winning two singles matches, the Big Green fell in their first match of the tournament to the Quakers, 4-3.
With the loss, Dartmouth was moved into the losers bracket where it faced Cornell on Saturday.
The Big Green took two of the doubles wins against the Big Red. Capuano and Moore won their match at first doubles 6-2 before Grosjean and Orlins won their match at second doubles, 6-3. With their wins, both pairs moved to 2-0 in doubles play on the weekend.
The third doubles match, Lombardi and Wong, went unfinished, as the Big Green claimed the doubles point.
Grosjean's singles match concluded first, as she cruised to the victory. She posted 6-0 and 6-1 victories to win the match.
Han played at fourth singles, as she fell to Cornell's Gelber, 6-2, 6-3.
Capuano earned her second win of the day and fourth of the tournament, posting 6-0 and 6-3 victories to win her match.
Orlins at third singles, Lombardi at fifth singles, and Moore at second singles each lost their matches. Orlins dropped the first set, but came back to win the second, 6-3, before dropping the final set, 6-3.
Lombardi won her first set over Cornell's Martinez, 6-4. She dropped the second set, 6-2, and despite pushing in the final set, fell 7-5.
Moore's first set went to a tiebreaker, as she ultimately fell 7-6 (6-4). She won the second set, 6-3, but dropped the final one, 6-4 as Cornell earned the 4-3 win over the Big Green.
With the loss, Dartmouth moved on to play Harvard on the final day of the ECAC Indoor Championship. The Big Green won two of their doubles matches to secure the doubles point. Lombardi and Wong earned their first doubles win of the weekend, earning the 7-5 win at third doubles.
Grosjean and Orlins also picked up the 6-4 win at second doubles, while Capuano and Moore suffered their first doubles loss of the weekend, 6-2.
At first singles, Capuano forced the first set to a tiebreaker, before falling 7-5 and 6-0 to drop the first singles match. Moore also fell at second singles, 6-3, 6-2.
Orlins forced her third singles match to three sets, winning the first 6-2. She dropped the middle set 6-2, before falling in the third, 7-5.
Han and Grosjean earned the two singles wins for the Big Green. Han cruised to a two-set victory, winning 6-1 and 6-4. Grosjean dropped her first set 6-4, but came back to win the second and third sets 6-4, 6-2 respectively to take the win.
At six singles, Lemcke won the first set, 6-3, before dropping the second and third sets, 6-4, 6-0, as Harvard took the 4-3 victory over the Big Green.
The Big Green, now sitting at 4-3 on the season, will head on the road for two matches. They will travel to Michigan, first taking on Toledo at Michigan State on Saturday, February 21 before facing the Spartans on Sunday, February 22.
