WORCESTER, Mass. – The Big Green kicked off their championship season at Eastern Sprints, Sunday, racing on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester. Dartmouth lightweight rowing competed in five total races, earning one grand final podium finishes.

The Big Green started the day with the 2V race, claiming third overall in the second heat with a time of 5:56.67. Dartmouth followed with a sixth-place finish in the grand final, finishing in 6:10.29.

In the Varsity Eight race, the Big Green finished in 5:50.26 in the first heat, securing their spot in the grad final. In that race, Dartmouth finished in 5:51.83, good for third place overall. This is the Big Green's first varsity eight medal at Eastern Sprints since 2013, as Dartmouth took home bronze. It entered Eastern Sprints ranked eighth overall and leaves the regatta ranked third heading into the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championship at the end of the month.
The Big Green securing spots in the grand final in both their 1V and 2V races is the first time since 2012 Dartmouth has achieved the feat.

Lightweight rowing wrapped the day with the Varsity Four race, as the Big Green once again found their way onto the podium. Dartmouth's all first-year boat finished in 7:15.71, just 1.7 seconds behind second place MIT.

The Big Green will compete next in the IRAÂ National Championship, held in Sacramento. The championship regatta will begin on Friday, May 29 with rowing also taking place on Saturday, May 30 before concluding on Sunday, May 30.
