Bio
At Dartmouth:
Grinnell is a team leader and a classic two-way midfielder. As a second team preseason All-America selection, he is poised to impact the Big Green at both ends of the field. Grinnell leads by example by bringing intensity and physical play to practice and games and has been named captain of the 2005 squad.
2004: Finished the season first on the team in scoring with 19 goals and 22 assists. Named first team All-New England and All-Ivy along with earning All-America honors. Team scoring leader in league games with 20 points. Scored gamewinner in overtime to lead Big Green over Yale, 13-12. Had six points against the Bulldogs.
2003: Named first team All-Ivy. Finished second on the team in scoring, notching a team-best 26 goals and six assists. Tallied a season-high five goals against Quinnipiac and three versus Lehigh, Penn and Princeton. Earned academic All-Ivy honors.
2002: Starting all 13 games in the midfield, led the Big Green with 28 points, notching 19 goals and nine assists. Named the Division I New England rookie of the year. Tallied a career-high four goals in his first collegiate contest, an 11-4 win over Colgate.
Secondary School: Lettered in cross country, soccer, lacrosse and basketball at John Jay High School. Voted captain of the lacrosse squad and was a two-time All-Section and All-League honoree.
Personal:
* son of Roger Grinnell and Merrill Grinnell-Grossman, Ben has a dog named Calloway.
Grinnell has been an Upper Valley Special Olympics Coach for the last four years. During his Fall 2003 off term he participated in a National Outdoor Leadership School Semester in the Pacific Northwest. Last summer he was a fly-fishing guide in Colorado.
