Kyle Helfrich begins his first season as Dartmouth men’s lacrosse assistant coach in 2023-24.
A 2021 Tufts graduate, Helfrich comes to Hanover from Catholic University in Washington, D.C. where he served as assistant coach to the faceoff and goalie groups. Over his three years, the Cardinals posted a 19-15 record, including 12-2 in Landmark Conference play. Helfrich’s faceoff and goaltending units impressed as well, winning 56.2 and 53.6 percent of faceoffs as a team over his two years. The goalies posted save percentages of 55.67 and 49.0, respectively, with Nic Pezone garnering All-Landmark Conference First Team honors in 2023 and second-team recognition in 2022.
As a team, Catholic went 13-5 overall and 7-0 in conference play in 2022, beating Elizabethtown for the Landmark Conference Championship. In 2023, Catholic posted a 5-2 conference mark, advancing to the Landmark Conference semifinals.
Prior to his time at Catholic, Helfrich served as assistant program director at Harlem Lacrosse where he coached and mentored 35 middle school athletes and planned educational lessons with Boston Public School teachers and conducted his own class sessions. Helfrich taught lacrosse skills and worked alongside the program director, helping him execute day-to-day operations.
As a student-athlete at Tufts, Helfrich was an All-American faceoff specialist, garnering the award from Inside Lacrosse following the COVID-shortened 2020 season. Helfrich won 69.1 percent of his faceoffs (65-of-94) with 41 groundballs in four games. He also posted a goal and assist. The year prior, Helfrich was named an All-American and named to the All-NESCAC and All-New England teams, winning 55.4 percent of his faceoffs (258-of-466) with 150 groundballs, two goals and one assist in 20 games.
