Heather Somers is in her third year working with the Dartmouth volleyball team. A native of West Glenville, N.Y., Somers attended Springfield College (Mass.), where she was a standout in both volleyball and lacrosse. She competed for four seasons helping her team to two Division III National Championship tournament appearances. Somers was also selected as the Springfield College Multi-Sport Athlete of the Year. As a senior captain she led the Pride volleyball team to its second consecutive NCAA quarterfinal appearance. In addition to her undergraduate degree from Springfield, Somers also earned a master’s of science in physical therapy. Somers’ coaching career began at Mount Holyoke College, where she served as the Lyons’ assistant coach for one season. In 1999, she served as the assistant volleyball coach at Trinity College (Conn.). Most recently, Somers served as the Interim Director of Athletics and Chair of Physical Education at Randolph College in Lynchburg, Va. While at Randolph, Somers coached the WildCat Volleyball Team for seven years, as well as served as an Associate Professor of Physical Education. With the WildCats, Somers coached two Collegiate Women’s Athletic Association All-Americas and had four players named to seven different all-tournament teams. The 2005-06 team was honored with AVCA/Game Plan Team Academic Award. Somers has served on several volleyball-related committees both at the conference and regional level.
