COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- -
Dartmouth's Lana Smith and Katieanne Christian each scored three goals, but it wasn't enough against Maryland as the Terrapins defeated the Big Green, 11-8, in women's lacrosse action Tuesday.
The loss gave the 11th-ranked Big Green a 2-2 record, while the No. 8 Terrapins improved to 6-2.
Maryland scored the first two goals of the game before Christian netted her first on a free position shot with 17:54 left in the half. After Delia Cox pushed the Terrapin lead to 3-1, Molly Jenkins and Smith made the score 3-3 at halftime.
Maryland took control early in the second half as Jessica Dorney sandwiched goals around another by Cox, all in less than four minutes. The Terrapins led, 6-3, with 22:24 remaining.
The two teams traded goals after that to account for all the scoring. Kate Killen also tallied for the Big Green.
For Dartmouth, sophomore goalkeeper Devon Wills made 10 saves, while Maryland's Kirah Miles made 13. Miles made 10 saves in the first half, including six on free position shots by the Big Green. The Terp defense surrendered 20 Dartmouth shots in the first 30 minutes.
The Big Green begins Ivy League play this weekend at Scully-Fahey Field. On Saturday, Dartmouth hosts Yale, followed by a matchup with Columbia on Sunday. Both games start at 1 p.m.
