Defensive Effort Leads Men's Lacrosse Past Harvard, 6-2 In Season Finale

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Two goals each by Jamie Coffin and Tom Daniels helped led Dartmouth past Harvard, 6-2 in the season finale for both teams. Big Green goalie Andrew Goldstein allowed just two Crismon goals while making 12 saves. Dartmouth ends the season at 8-5, 3-3 Ivy while the Crimson fall to 7-6, 2-4 in the league.

The game closed the book on the 2004 Ivy League season and lifted Dartmouth into a third--place tie with Penn in the final standings. Harvard finished the year tied with Brown for fifth place in the Ivy League.

The Crimson finished with a 31-27 advantage in shots, but the Big Green close defense limited Harvard to just 14 shots on goal. Goldstein was up to the task in the final two periods as he made eight of his 12 stops in the final 30 minutes, including five fourth-quarter saves.

The Crimson scored early in the first period before Dartmouth answered with two of its own. Alec Hufnagel scored the equalizer at 6:35 before Brandon Wright had the go-ahead goal with :10 left in the stanza.

The Big Green increased the lead just four minutes into the second with Daniels first goal. The Crimson closed to within one before halftime with its second strike at 7:54. That would be the last time that Harvard would score.

Dartmouth got the backbreaking goals late in the third quarter as Daniels and Coffin gave the Big Green a 5-2 lead.

Coffin increased the visitors lead to four goals when he finished a spectacular individual effort with 11:41 left.

Goldstein had a game-high eight ground balls to go with his 12 saves. Ben Lovejoy ,Jesse Klempner and Ben Grinnell all recorded assists.
