HAMILTON, N.Y. - Dartmouth's women's hockey team entered today's game with a perfect 16-0-0 record against Colgate. Though it's no longer perfect against the Raiders, the Big Green did remain unbeaten by rallying twice to force a tie, 2-2. The Big Green played without senior captain Tiffany Hagge (Coon Rapids, Minn.), who scored two goals the previous day in a victory over Cornell.
The home squad scored the lone goal of the first period at 9:18. Sam Hunt put one behind senior Kate Lane (Wingham, Ont.) to give Colgate the lead, 1-0. Both teams went 0-1 on the power play in the frame, and the teams were deadlocked in shots on goal with 11 apiece in the stanza.
Dartmouth (6-7-1, 3-5-1 ECACHL) tied it up midway through the second on the power play. After Hunt was sent off for a hooking minor, senior Danielle Grundy (Kelowna, B.C.) got the puck in the net with freshman Maggie Kennedy (West Hartford, Conn.) and junior Meredith Batcheller (Cleveland Heights, Ohio) earning assists on the play. The Big Green controlled the period, outshooting the Raiders, 13-3, in the frame, but could only manage the single goal.
After Dartmouth failed to convert on two power-play chances in the opening minutes of the third period, Colgate (7-7-4, 6-4-1 ECACHL) responded with the go-ahead goal on its first shot of the period. Hunt scored her second of the game at 7:42 of the stanza to regain the lead for the Raiders, 2-1.
The Big Green tied it up with 5:04 remaining in regulation when freshman Julia Bronson (Arlington, Va.) notched her first collegiate goal. Classmates Kennedy and Sarah Newnam (Lexington, Ky.) earned assists on the play.
Dartmouth earned a power play with 1:27 remaining in overtime, but couldn't get one past Colgate netminder Elayna Hamashuk and was forced to settle for the tie.
The Big Green outshot Colgate, 43-21, including 7-1 in the extra stanza. Hamashuk made 41 saves for the Raiders, while Lane made 19 for Dartmouth.
Dartmouth returns to action Saturday when it hosts Connecticut. Gametime is set for 1 p.m.
