HANOVER, N.H. - Dartmouth's women's hockey team, ranked eighth in the nation, received a career best 38 saves from senior netminder Kate Lane, but failed to muster any offense against top-ranked St. Lawrence as the Saints won, 3-0, this afternoon at Thompson Arena.
Lane (Wingham, Ont.) kept Dartmouth in the game early, making 17 stops in the first period alone. The two teams went into the first intermission scoreless, with the visitors outshooting the Big Green, 17-6.
St. Lawrence (8-0-0, 1-0-0 ECACHL) eventually got on the scoreboard thanks in part to Dartmouth penalties. At 4:08 of the second period, Marianna Locke potted a power play goal, with assists going to Carson Duggan and Kerri Wallace. 30 seconds later, the Saints took a 2-0 lead when Casey Hughes put one in the net off a feed from Tracy Muzerall. The Saints added an insurance goal at 18:32 when Duggan scored with the assist going to Annie Guay. Dartmouth was outshot in the period, 21-8.
The Big Green came out flying in the third, with close calls coming from freshman Maggie Kennedy (West Hartford, Conn.) and sophomore Nicole Ruta (Pickering, Ont.), but Jessica Moffat was there to make the stop each time, making 10 saves in the frame. St. Lawrence managed just three shots on goal in the third, but also hit a pair of posts in the period.
Dartmouth (3-2-0, 1-2-0 ECACHL) went 0-for-5 on the power play while the Saints scored twice on eight opportunities. Moffat made 24 saves to earn the shutout.
Dartmouth returns to action tomorrow afternoon when it hosts Clarkson at Thompson Arena. Gametime is set for 2 p.m.
