CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Sophomore Kristen Barry (Duxbury, Mass.) scored three goals and added two assists as the Dartmouth women's lacrosse team defeated Harvard, 11-5, on Wednesday evening.
With the game tied, 3-3, at halftime, the No. 14 Big Green scored the first six goals of the second half for a commanding 9-3 advantage with about three minutes left in regulation.
Barry started things off, taking a feed from senior Kristen Zimmer (Alexandria, Va.) for a 1-0 lead about five minutes into the game. The two teams traded goals after that, and Harvard (3-10 overall, 1-3 Ivy) held a 3-2 advantage on a Kaitlin Martin tally with 2:15 left until the break.
With 10 seconds remaining, junior Sarah Szefi (Pittsburgh, Pa.) scored her first of two, creating a 3-3 tie and kicking off a seven-goal outburst for the Big Green.
Late in the second half, the Crimson scored a pair of goals in the final three minutes to get within four, 9-5, but Barry and senior Casey Hazel (Reisterstown, Md.) cemented the win. Each potted a goal in the final 22 seconds to account for all the scoring.
Dartmouth outshot Harvard, 29-13, improving to 8-4 on the year and 4-2 in the Ivy League.
In the nets, senior Devon Wills (Denver, Colo.) was called on for just four saves, while Harvard's Kathryn Tylander had 13 stops.
For Dartmouth, Hazel had two goals and one assist, while Zimmer scored twice to go along with one assist. Also finding the net for the Big Green were senior Annie Leibovitz (Boulder, Colo.) and junior Jen Pittman (New Canaan, Conn.).
With an eye toward a fourth-straight NCAA tournament appearance, Dartmouth travels to No. 10 Princeton on Saturday, April 22, for a 3 p.m. game.
