Syracuse, N.Y. – The Dartmouth women's soccer team threw all it had at Syracuse goalkeeper Eliza Bennett-Hattan, but the rookie came up big for her squad, making nine saves. As usual, the Big Green's offense was potent, taking 22 shots to the Orange's eight. Dartmouth's Amanda Webb (Danvers, Mass.) and Laurel Peak (Redding, Conn.) combined for three saves in the tie.
The two teams played a balanced game throughout the first half, with each taking six shots and one corner kick. Neither squad could find the back of the net with Dartmouth junior Webb providing two saves to keep Syracuse off the board while Bennett-Hattan made three stops.
"While we would have liked to get a win today, I thought we played well and took control from about 15 minutes into the second half onward," said Head Coach Angie Hind.
Following halftime, the Big Green took control of the contest, out-shooting the Orange 9-1, but was unable to convert despite also taking three corner kicks. Dartmouth hit the posts and had several shots blocked in addition to saves by Bennett-Hattan. The Syracuse defense hung tough through Dartmouth's offensive barrage, sending the game into overtime.
The contest continued to be all Dartmouth, taking seven shots to Syracuse's one throughout both sudden-victory overtime periods. During the last 65 minutes of the contest, the Big Green took 16 shots to the Orange's two. Bennet-Hattan made three more saves in overtime, while Peak, who came into the game at the start of the second half for Dartmouth, made one save, coming in the 108th minute to preserve the tie.
"We had a lot of good chances, but just couldn't find the back of the net," said Hind.
Sophomore Becky Poskin (Leawood, Kan.) and freshman Myra Sack (Wynnewood, Pa.) led Dartmouth with four shots apiece.
With the tie, the Big Green moves to 5-3-1 (1-0 Ivy) while the Orange is now 1-8-2 on the season.
Dartmouth will be in action again on Saturday Sept. 30 when it heads to Princeton for an Ivy League showdown at 1:00 p.m
