PRINCETON, N.J. - The undefeated Princeton (18-3, 10-0) women's volleyball team proved too much for Dartmouth (13-8, 6-5) as the Big Green fell on Friday, 3-1, to the Tigers in Dillon Gym. The Big Green took the first game 30-28 but fell in the next three 25-30, 27-30, 24-30.
Sandy Barbut (Los Angeles, Calif.) was the leading hitter for Dartmouth with 16 kills while Megan MacGregor (Carlsbad, Calif.) added 14 and Jess Thomas (Tampa, Fla.) had 12. Katie Hirsch (Austin, Texas) was top with 54 assists while Amanda Marston (Austin, Texas) had 18 digs as Barbut and MacGregor both recorded double-doubles with their 17 and 14 digs, respectively.
Dartmouth hit over .300 in the first and third games but the Tigers hit a blistering .400 in Game Three along with an unbelievable game-high 82 assists from Bailey Robinson to gain the advantage.
"Princeton proved tonight how they are the most consistent team in the Ivy League," said head coach Ann Marie Larese. "It was one of the best college volleyball matches I've seen and it was very disappointing to not get the result we wanted. Unfortunately Princeton's consistency was just too much for us but I was proud of the way we battled and hung with them."
While out of the Ivy title hunt, the Big Green can still hope to finish in the top half of the league with a win over Penn tomorrow in Philadelphia. Currently the Quakers and Yale are tied for second place at 8-2.
