Men's Tennis Takes Out Stony Brook, Marist

Hanover, N.H. - The Dartmouth men's tennis team defeated Stony Brook, 7-0 and Marist, 6-1 this afternoon in a pair of dual matches.

In the first match of the day, the Big Green swept the Seawolves, dropping only one set. The doubles came out strong with impressive wins by the first and second doubles teams of Waslen/Freeman and Schechtman/McGaughey.

At No. 1 singles senior Dave Waslen took care of business coming back from a break down in the first set to a 6-4, 6-2 win. Daniel Freeman playing No. 2 avenged an earlier season loss to Quirijn Van Veen at the ITA. His match was tight but victorious at 6-4, 2-6,6-4.

Against Marist, the Big Green had to get the job done in singles after the Red Foxes took the doubles point. With Marist up 1-0 in the team score the Dartmouth men were able to win four of its six first sets in singles. Justin Tzou put the Green even with a convincing 6-0,6-1 victory at the No. 4 spot. Fellow freshmen Jeff Freeman and Andy Kim struggled in the their first sets but showed great heart in winning their matches in three sets. Daniel Freeman struggle from the outset with an ankle problem but was able to survive a tough match by newcomer Lic Sessegesimins to win in three.

Both upperclassmen Jeff Schechtman and Steve McGaughey played very well in their straight set wins.

Senior Captain Dave Waslen came back strong in his three-set matching coming back in the third after not converting on two match points in the second set.

The next match for the Green will be Wednesday when it faces the Boston College Eagles at 6pm at the Boss/Gordon Tennis Center.
