BRADENTON, FL. – A nine-run inning by the University of Illinois took all the wind from the sails of the Dartmouth baseball team, as they fell, 20-10, in Game Five of their Spring Trip in Bradenton, Fla.

Dartmouth jumped out to an early lead on the games first plate appearances. Illinois pitcher, Mike Stankiewicz led off the game walking a couple batters, sending one Big Green runner home. A hit by Nick Santomauro brought in the second Dartmouth run of the inning, followed by a two-run blast by James Wren to centerfield that extended their lead to 4-0.

In the bottom of the third inning the Illini put their first mark on the board, as Ryan Hastings gave the Orange and Blue their second hit of the games when he homered to right-center field.

Wren came back up for his second at bat in the fourth inning and banged out a hard double to center field. Back-to-back singles by Jack Monahan and Jason McManis, concluded with Wren crossing home plate and the Big Green increasing their lead to 5-1.

But in the bottom of the fourth, the Fighting Illini exploded with a two-hit, nine-run inning. Starting Big Green pitcher, Bobby Steinsdoerfer, walked seven batters in the inning on route to Illinois taking a 10-5 lead.

The Big Green tried to battle back in the top of fifth inning, when Michael Pagliarulo doubled to right-center to record his second RBI of the day. Brian Dunne also put up a two-RBI day for the Big Green.

But the remainder of the contest went in the favor of the Illini bats. Illinois rattled off 10 more runs in the final three innings to take the commanding victory, 20-10.

Dartmouth, who has the day off tomorrow, will be back in action when they drive up state to Florida Atlantic University for Game Six of the trip. Senior Jeff Wilkerson will be on the hill for the Big Green.
