Hanover, N.H. - The 16th seeded Dartmouth men's soccer team (11-5-2) is set for an NCAA Tournament Third Round matchup with No. 1 seed Wake Forest (19-1-1), defending national champions, this Sunday.
The teams square-off at 1 p.m. at Wake's Spry Stadium in Winston Salem, N.C. After receiving a first round bye as one of 16 national seeds, the Ivy Champion Big Green advanced on penalty kicks in the second round after a 0-0 tie with Boston College on Wednesday. The Demon Deacons topped William and Mary, 1-0 in overtime, in the second round.
This is the first time since 1992 that Dartmouth has advanced past the second round of the NCAA Tournament and is head coach
Jeff Cook's first postseason success in four tournament appearances.Wake Forest has not lost to a non-conference opponent in its last 39 games and boasts the fourth-longest home unbeaten streak in NCAA history with 32 consecutive wins at Spry Stadium. The meeting between the Deacs and Big Green is just the second in series history, with Dartmouth winning the only other contest, 1-0, in Cook's debut as head coach in 2001.
