Fayetteville, Ark - The Dartmouth women's basketball team went wire-to-wire and toe-to-toe with SEC foe Arkansas tonight and the game was tied with 1:05 to go before the Razorbacks pulled away to take a 66-57 win.
The Big Green (2-7) is no stranger to putting fear in the hearts of BCS opponents and after trailing by nine points early, had its own nine-point lead over Arkansas (9-2) midway through the second half. Dartmouth led 31-30 at halftime and never looked back, leading for nearly the entire second half until Ayana Brereton gave Arkansas its first advantage since five minutes left in the first, up 57-55 at 3:22. The Big Green tied it again at 57-57 with a Brittney Smith (Fort Worth, Texas) jumper at 2:17 before Lyndsay Harris hit a big three with 1:05 on the clock to give the Razorbacks a 60-57 lead that they would not relinquish. Dartmouth had some late turnovers and was forced to foul Arkansas, who shot uncharacteristically well from the free-throw line to seal the 66-57 win.
Smith led Dartmouth with 18 points and nine rebounds while Koren Schram (Batesville, Ark.) had 13 points and six boards in ehr home state.
Dartmouth is back in action on Dec. 29 when it hosts Boston College in the first game of the Blue Sky Classic. To date, the Big Green has played just two of its nine contests at home.
