Dartmouth Men's Tennis Takes Out Army, Binghamton in Weekend Matches

Dartmouth men's tennis began its dual match season on an upbeat note
with convincing 5-2 wins over both the Army Cadets and the University
of Binghamton Bearcats on Feb. 2 and 3.
Against Army on Saturday, the Big Green started out strong in doubles, as the #1 Team of senior Mark Brodie (Greensboro, N.C.) and sophomore Daniel Freeman (Chatsworth, Calif.) led the way with a solid 8-6 win. Freshmen David Fink (Roslyn Heights, N.Y.) and W. Stephen Greif (San Antonio, Texas) followed with an 8-5 victory at the #3 spot, clinching the team point.
In singles, sophomore Justin Tzou (Cupertino, Calif.) found his groove early on with a quick 6-1, 6-1 win at the #3 spot, and Brodie then came through with a hard fought straight set victory at #1 to put Dartmouth up 3-0.
Although the #2 match gave Army their first point on the board, freshman Curtis Roby (New York City, N.Y.) soon after gave Dartmouth the final 4th point and the team match. Junior Ari Gayer (Hollis, N.Y.) also won his match as the Green finished up
with a 5-2 victory.
Going up against the Bearcats on Sunday, Dartmouth started out slowly, dropping two out of three doubles matches to give Binghamton the point. However, the Big Green then rallied in its singles matches, winning five out of six to finish 5-2 over Binghamton.
The Dartmouth men dominated their Bearcat opponents, as Freeman, Tzou, Gayer, and Roby all won their matches in just two sets.
The wins against Army and Binghamton put the Big Green at a 3-2 record.
Dartmouth will next take on Marquette in Milwaukee, Wis. on Friday, Feb. 15, followed by a match against Northwestern in Chicago, Ill. the next day. The Big Green will return home on Feb. 23 to play host to Stony Brook University and Marist College.
