Hanover, N.H. - The Dartmouth women's
basketball team, 2008 Ivy Co-Champions, will continue its season in the
Postseason WNIT with a trip to Vermont
this Thursday.
The game is set for Thursday at Patrick Gymnasium in Burlington, Vt.
at 7:00 p.m. The teams are playing for the right to take on Boston College
in the second round.
This marks the fourth-straight postseason appearance for the
Big Green women, who also won their third Ivy crown in the last four years and
16th overall this year. Dartmouth
(15-15, 11-3 Ivy) earned the WNIT bid by virtue of its tie for first place in
the Ivy League. The Big Green played in a three-way playoff with fellow champs
Cornell and Harvard last weekend, beating Harvard on Friday night before
falling to Cornell, who had received a random bye, on Sunday. Cornell will represent
the Ivy League in the NCAA Tournament while Dartmouth earned its second-straight WNIT appearance. The Big Green fell to Seton Hall in the WNIT last season.
Vermont (23-8) finished second in the America
East but was knocked off in the conference tournament by #3 seed Boston University.
The Catamounts are making their second WNIT appearance, advancing to the quarterfinals in 2002. Vermont head coach Sharon Dawley served as an
assistant and associate head coach under Chris Wielgus at Dartmouth for 10 years prior to her
appointment with the Catamounts five years ago.
The Women's National Invitation Tournament is an annual tournament involving 48 of the
nation's top women's Division I basketball teams. All games are hosted by
participating schools at their home facility and every round is single
elimination.
This year's WNIT will feature 16 first-round games, followed
by 16 second round-games, eight third-round games, four quarterfinal games, two
semifinal games and the championship.
Ticket information will be released as soon as it becomes
available. The full WNIT bracket is available here.
