HANOVER, N.H. ? The Dartmouth baseball team connected on three homeruns, including a grand slam from senior Erik Bell (Sierra Madre, Calif.) in a seven-run sixth inning as the Big Green took a 11-5 victory from Holy Cross on Wednesday afternoon at Red Rolfe Field.

Dartmouth improves to 18-11 on the season, while the Crusaders fall to 15-20.

In addition to Bell's round tripper, senior co-captain Damon Wright (Dallas, Texas) collected his team-leading seventh homer of the season with a mammoth shot to left field. Sophomore Nick Santomauro belted his fifth of the year to get things started in the first as he had another great day from the plate with two doubles to go with the homer and three runs batted in and three runs scored.

Both Wright and freshman Jeff Onstott (Houston, Texas) recorded three hits, with Wright posting three RBI.

Freshman Colin Britton (Poughquag, N.Y.) earned his first collegiate win with five solid innings, giving up only two runs on four hits and striking out two, while walking none. Seniors Kyle Zeis (Solana Beach, Calif.) and Bobby Steinsdoerfer (Crystal Lake, Ill.) provided the Big Green with excellent relief as they combined for three innings pitched and surrendering one hit and fanning four.

Holy Cross got things started early in the first inning as Jake Gorman powered a Britton pitch over the left field fence to give the Crusaders a 1-0 lead. Dartmouth fired back in the bottom of the inning with Santomauro connecting on a blast deep down the right field line to score Bell, who led off the frame with a base hit, to get the Big Green its first lead at 2-1.

Dartmouth added two more in the third on RBI singles from Wright and senior Jason Blydell (Nahant, Mass.) to increase the lead to 4-1 in favor of the Big Green.

In the sixth, Dartmouth opened the flood gates with seven runs with four coming on one swing from Bell. After back-to-back walks and a fielder's choice on a sacrifice bunt, Bell stepped to the plate with the base full and drove a 2-1 pitch deep to right center and over everything for the 8-1 lead. Onstott then singled through the right side and scored all the way from first on a double from Santomauro. The Big Green was not done there as Wright slammed a Holy Cross offering up and out to left field to make it 11-2.

Holy Cross was able to creep closer in the bottom of the ninth with three runs, but Dartmouth shut the door on its 18th win of the season with the 11-5 victory.

First place Dartmouth has a huge series coming up this weekend with four games against second place Yale, beginning on Saturday afternoon with a twin bill at 12 p.m. from Red Rolfe Field. The two teams will be facing off again on Sunday for two at 12 p.m.
