HANOVER, N.H. ? The Dartmouth baseball team got a complete-game win from senior Chase Carpenter (Bartlett, Tenn.) to defeat Yale, 7-2, in the second game of a twin bill after the Big Green fell, 8-7, in extra innings in the opener.

Dartmouth moves to 20-13 overall and 12-4 in the Ivy League, while Yale sits at 19-20-1 with a 9-6-1 in conference play. With the split today, the Big Green remains 2.5 games ahead of Yale for first place in the Red Rolfe Division.

Carpenter earned his team-high fifth win of the season, going all nine in the second game and surrendering only one earned run. He was very efficient, throwing only 97 pitches in the outing and fanning one, while walking only one. Sophomore Robert Young (Cleburne, Texas) got the ball in game one and went eight innings, allowing four runs, while fanning five.

At the plate, sophomore James Wren (Granbury, Texas) was a combined 5-for-10 in the two games with a double and a team-high three runs batted in. Senior co-captain Damon Wright (Dallas, Texas) had another good day with four hits, three runs scored and two RBI. Junior Michael Pagliarulo (Winchester, Mass.) also collected four hits and scored three runs to go along with a team-high two doubles, while freshman Jeff Onstott (Houston, Texas) went 4-for-6 in the first game with two RBI.

In game one, Yale earned a 2-0 lead in the third inning on RBI singles from Josh Cox and Jake Doyle. Dartmouth answered with one of its own in the fourth as Onstott singled home junior Jack Monahan (Overland Park, Kan.) who reached on a double down the right field line.

The Bulldogs added three more in the next two innings, but Dartmouth put up a four spot in the bottom of the sixth to knot the score at 5-5. Monahan and senior Jason McManis (Flower Mound, Texas) led off with back-to-back hit by pitches and Monahan came around on an error by the third baseman, while McManis scored on a single by Onstott to make it 5-3. Sophomore Nick Santomauro (North Caldwell, N.J.) grounded into a fielder's choice that allowed senior Erik Bell (Sierra Madre, Calif.) to score to cut the lead to one. Wren then singled home Pagliarulo to tie the game after he reached on a fielder's choice.

It was tied until the top of the 10th when Yale got two unearned runs on a single by Doyle and a groundout from Trigg Larson-Danforth to go up 7-5. Dartmouth came back again with two in the bottom of the inning with three consecutive doubles from Pagliarulo, Wright and Wren, with Wright's and Wren's two-baggers plating runs.

Yale took the lead for good in the top of the 11th on a solo homer from P.J. Gorynski to give them the 8-7 win.

In game two, the Big Green jumped out to an early 6-0 lead after four innings, highlighted by a two-run single from junior Johnathon Santopadre (Vacaville, Calif.) and an RBI double from Bell.

From there it was all Carpenter as Yale plated single runs in the fifth and sixth, but that was it. In the final three innings he only faced two over the limit to earn the win as Dartmouth added more insurance in the seventh to take the second game, 7-2.

The Big Green will be back in action this Tuesday for another showdown with Vermont with the first pitch slated for 3:30 p.m. at Red Rolfe Field.
