HANOVER, N.H. ? After clinching the Red Rolfe Division Title yesterday down in Cambridge, the Dartmouth baseball team hooked up with its rival again as the Big Green took game one, 8-4, but could not hold off a charging Crimson squad in a 10-8 defeat.

Dartmouth moves to 24-14 on the season with a 15-5 mark in Ivy play, while the Crimson finished conference play with an 8-12 mark and a 10-30 overall record.

Senior co-captain Damon Wright (Dallas, Texas) led the offensive attack in game one, going 4-for-4 with three doubles and a run batted in. Sophomore Nick Santomauro (North Caldwell, N.J.) had a great first game with two hits, two runs scored and two RBI, including a run scoring triple. In the two games, senior Jason McManis (Flower Mound, Texas) went 4-for-6 with four RBI and a double, while sophomore James Wren (Granbury, Texas) collected three hits, two of which were doubles and he tied for team-high with four runs batted in.

On the mound, sophomore Robert Young (Cleburne, Texas) got his fourth win of the season, in game one, going 6.1 innings, allowing four runs on 10 hits and fanning three. Senior Chase Carpenter (Bartlett, Tenn.) hit the hill in the nightcap and had another impressive outing with eight innings pitched and giving Harvard just two runs, one earned. He only walked one, while striking out three.

In game one, the Crimson took an early 1-0 lead, but Dartmouth battled back with six unanswered runs in the first four inning to take a 6-1 lead into the fifth. Santomauro led the attack with an RBI single in the second and crushing a run scoring triple deep to right center. Wright connected on two of his three doubles in back-to-back innings as he scored following one in the third inning and drove a run in with the second in the fourth.

Harvard fought back with two runs in the fifth and one in sixth, highlighted by homeruns from Matt Kramer and Matt Vance, to cut the lead to 6-4. Dartmouth, however, extended the lead to 8-4 in the bottom of the sixth thanks to a two-run double from Wren, which scored junior Michael Pagliarulo (Winchester, Mass.) and Wright. Pagliarulo reached on a base hit, while Wright slammed his third double down the left field line.

The Crimson loaded the bases in the top of the seventh, but Smith did what he has done all season long for the Big Green and that is shut down opponents in the late innings. He got the final two outs on strikeouts as Dartmouth earned its third win against the Crimson.

In game two, Dartmouth had a six-run fourth inning, but Harvard finished the game with ten runs in the final two innings to complete the massive comeback against the Big Green to earn the 10-8 win.

Dartmouth got on the board first as Bell led off the game with a double and scored on two consecutive ground outs to make it 1-0 after one.

The big inning for the Big Green came in the fourth. After sophomore Brett Gardner (Bellevue, Wash.) was hit by a pitch, Dartmouth got two-straight singles, including an RBI single from freshman Jason Brooks (Westlake Village, Calif.). Dartmouth added another on a force out to increase the lead to 3-1 and junior Kyle Evans (Springfield, Mo.) collected an RBI with a single to push it to 4-1. The big hit came from McManis, who drove a pitch deep to right center to plate three runs and give Dartmouth a 7-1 cushion.

The Big Green added another in the sixth as Evans got to second on a double to lead off and scored on a single by McManis to extend the lead to 8-1.

Harvard kept hanging around and plated two runs in the eighth on a homerun from Taylor Meehan. The big blow came in the top of the ninth as the Crimson scored eight times to earn the 10-8 win.

With one win today, the Dartmouth baseball team earned a tie with Columbia for the best overall record in Ivy play and the two teams will not know until tomorrow morning when Ivy League office will decide where the best-of-three series will take place.
