Hanover, N.H. - Dartmouth women's basketball Head Coach
Chris Wielgus and her staff distributed the program's annual awards at the team's end of year gathering.
Junior guard
Koren Schram (Batesville, Ark.) received the Gail Koziara '82 Most Valuable Player Award after a season in which she led the Big Green to its 16th Ivy League Championship and third in the last four years. Schram was a first team All-Ivy pick who also won Dartmouth's Class of 1976 Award for the top female athlete of the year. She is one of the Ivy League's most feared scorers, leading the Big Green with 11.4 points per game, sixth in the league, and was the Ancient Eight's top three-point shooter with 70 made threes. She also ranked second in the league in steals with 2.15 per game and free-throw percentage, hitting 84 percent of her attempts.
Senior co-captains
Kristen Craft (Marshalltown, Iowa) and
Sydney Scott (Houston, Texas) were both recipients of the Larry Leavitt Leadership Award for their tremendous contributions in guiding their team to the third Ivy Title of their careers.
Craft, the Big Green's starting point guard, did it all for Dartmouth this season. A true story of perseverance, Craft increased her playing time in each season of her career and had her best showing as a senior. She averaged 8.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.4 assists while playing 32.2 minutes per game. She iced many contests with her 81 percent free throw shooting as well.
Scott earned All-Ivy accolades for the second-straight season with an honorable mention nod. She averaged 6.9 points and 7.1 rebounds per game for Dartmouth and was a great role model for her teammates. Scott won the prestigious Charles T. Stoner Law Scholarship from the Women's Basketball Coaches Association and was a Lowe's Senior CLASS Award nominee.
Both Craft and Scott were also named Academic All-Ivy this season. Wielgus noted the two as great examples for their teammates and true friends who offered guidance on and off the court.
The Don Goss Spirit Award for the person who best embodies the spirit and determination that are a rich part of the Dartmouth women's basketball tradition went to junior
Ugochi Ukegbu (Bronx, N.Y.). Ukegbu was in her first season with the Big Green, walking onto the squad after several team members encouraged her to try out. Ukegbu only played in five games but her good nature and commitment to the team were second to none.
Dartmouth won its 16th Ivy League Championship this past season in advanced to the Women's NIT for the second year. The Big Green brings back 11 letterwinners from this year's squad to its title defense in 2008-09.
