NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Sophomore Peter Williamson led Dartmouth at the MacDonald Cup this weekend, scoring an even-par 210 in the three-round event to place fifth in the final individual standings. As a team, the Big Green finished ninth out of 14 participating schools on the Yale Golf Course, 29 strokes behind host Yale, which made up seven strokes in the final round to win the MacDonald Cup for the first time.
The tournament was halted in the middle of the second round on Saturday due to the rain, but when the skies cleared today, all golfers were able to finish their three rounds of play.
Williamson shot below par in two of the three rounds, carding a 68-73-69 in the three rounds to finish fifth. Yale's Tom McCarthy and Ben Wescoe finished 1-2 in the individual standings. McCarthy was the only golfer to score under par in each of the three rounds, posting a six-under 204 for the tournament, while Wescoe finished a single stroke back.
Big Green junior co-captain Davis Mullany tied for 34th place with sophomore teammate Teddy Overton as both completed the tournament with nine-over 219s. Last week's winner of the Dartmouth Invitational, freshman James Pleat, had a strong second round with a 69 (-1), but sandwiched that between a 78 (+8) and a 77 (+7) to tie for 51st with a 224. Rounding out the Dartmouth field was senior Dave Putney in a tie for 69th with a 236.
Dartmouth will take to the links again in two weeks for Ivy Match Play at The Bay Club in Cape Cod on Oct. 17-18.
