Senior Pat Marshall (Lutherville, Md.) got the start in net and made eight saves in the defeat.
For Vermont (2-0), Andrew Kelleher posted a game-high five goals and Derek Lichtfuss added three to led the attack for the Catamounts. Justin Lubas started for Vermont between the pipes and made nine saves in the victory.
Koch got things started for the Big Green with his second man-up goal of season, coming 53 seconds into the contest to give Dartmouth a 1-0 lead. Vermont fired back with a man-up goal of its own as Kelleher netted his first of three extra man goals to knot the score at 1-1 midway through the first quarter. Kelleher would give the Catamounts their first lead with 5:14 left in the opening frame as Vermont took a 2-1 lead into the second quarter.
Junior Ari Sussman (New Haven, Conn.) started the second quarter off by evening the score with his second of the year coming with 13:10 remaining in the half. Sophomore Rhett Miller (Dallas, Texas) got the lead back for the Big Green with his first of the season, but Vermont didn't go away and tallied two-straight to take the lead back at 4-3. Koch knotted the score for the fourth time in the first half as he notched his second goal of the half to make it 4-4 going into the break.
The back and forth battled continued into the third quarter as Koch gave Dartmouth a 5-4 lead a minute into the frame, but Lichtfuss came right back to even the score at 5-5. With 9:55 left in the quarter, Delaney put the Big Green back on top with his first of the day to make it 6-5. Dartmouth couldn't hold the lead though as Kelleher struck again at the 8:03 mark. Delaney kept the Big Green in the contest with his second-consecutive goal, but Dartmouth then dug themselves a big hole as Vermont scored three-straight, including a man-up goal by Kelleher to take its largest lead at 9-7.
Daniels would get the Big Green back to within one with his second of the afternoon, but Brandon Goodwyn got back the two-goal cushion for the Catamounts with 6:41 left. Daniels added his third of the day, but Vermont's Alex Young put the finishing touches on an 11-9 win with 1:47 left in the game.
The man-up situations hurt Dartmouth all afternoon as the Catamounts capitalized on six chances, scoring five goals with the extra man on the field. The Big Green only got one man-up goal in five chances. In a tight game, Vermont held a 27-26 shot advantage and won 13-of-24 face-offs.
