HANOVER, N.H. ? Dartmouth College today announced the addition of a baseball doubleheader to the schedule for its Ivy League champion squad in preparation for the Big Green's first NCAA Regional in 22 years. Dartmouth (26-15) will travel to West Point, N.Y., to play a twinbill on Sunday at noon against Army (33-18), which won the Patriot League title this past weekend. Both games will be nine innings in length.
During the first weekend of May, the Big Green defeated Cornell in the best-of-three Ivy Championship, splitting a doubleheader on May 2 before blanking the Big Red the following day, 10-0, to clinch the title. Since then, Dartmouth defeated Bryant on May 13 by a final of 7-4. The Big Green have won 25 of their last 31 games and have not lost consecutive contests since dropping eight straight to start the year.
Army, meanwhile, has won 17 of its last 19 contests, including a two-game sweep of Lafayette in the Patriot League Championship series. The Black Knight pitching staff has yielded just 11 runs over the last seven games, while Kevin McKague and Joey Henshaw both are hitting at least .400.
Dartmouth will be making its sixth appearance in the NCAA Tournament and first since 1987. The selection show for the 16 four-team regionals will air on ESPN on Monday, May 25 at 12:30 p.m. Regional play begins on May 29.
