This Time Out: #6 Dartmouth (2-0) hosts its own Nike Hypertherm Classic featuring Northeast foes UConn, Rhode Island and Iona. The Big Green has won its first two contests of the season in shutout fashion and will look to keep the ball rolling against #18 UConn and Rhode Island this week. Dartmouth takes on the Huskies on Friday night before playing host to the Rams on Sunday. Iona and URI meet on Friday afternoon and UConn faces Rhody on Sunday.
Last Time Out: Dartmouth picked up a pair of opening weekend wins over St. Peter's, 7-0, and Northeastern, 1-0. St. Peter's is a common opponent with UConn, as the Huskies defeated the Peacocks, 2-0. Junior Lyman Missimer (The Woodlands, Texas) earned the shutout over St. Peter's while rookie Sean Donovan (Burr Ridge, Ill.) picked up the clean sheet against the Huskies. The Big Green spread the wealth on offense, with Daniel Keat (Wellington, New Zealand) leading the way with two goals against St. Peter's. Junior Andrew Olsen (Norwell, Mass.) picked up the lone goal and winner against Northeastern while Craig Henderson (Wellington, New Zealand) and Lucky Mkosana (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) joined him in the scoring column against St. Peter's. Rookie Kevin Dzierzawski (Oakland Twp., Mich.) had a great opening weekend, picking up five points including a goal.
Rookie of the Week: It was a big weekend for the rookie Dzierzawski, who scored five points and made his first collegiate start as the #10 Big Green picked up a pair of victories. In his first collegiate game, Dzierzawski came off the bench to tally a goal and three assists as Dartmouth dispatched St. Peter's, 7-0. The rookie recorded an assist on Lucky Mksoana's goal just before the half to make it 4-0. He helped a pair of teammates score their first collegiate goals and picked up one of his own in the second half, playing a role in all three of the Big Green's second-half goals. Dzierzawski earned his first career start two days later, helping the Big Green lockdown Northeastern with a 1-0 shutout win.
Where We Rank: A pair of independent publications put the Big Green in the national top-10, with Soccer America ranking Dartmouth sixth nationally and College Soccer News tabbing the team ninth. The NSCAA coaches poll has Dartmouth at 13th nationally and third in the Northeast.
Next Time Out: Dartmouth heads west to California, home state of juniors Walker Linares (Santa Cruz, Calif.) and Bryan Giudicelli (Emerald Hills, Calif.). The Big Green will play in the University of San Diego Tournament on Sept. 18 and 20, facing the host San Diego and Loyola Marymount.
