HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth men's soccer freshman goalkeeper
Sean Donovan (Burr Ridge, Ill.) has been named the Ivy League Co-Rookie of the Week for his efforts in a shutout of #18 UConn.
Donovan is the second straight Big Green freshman to be honored by the Ivy League, as classmate
Kevin Dzierzawski (Oakland Twp., Mich.) picked up the honor last week. He shares this week's award with Harvard freshman Brian Rogers.
Donovan and Dartmouth (3-0-1) remained unscored upon this season as the #6 Big Green played #18 UConn to a scoreless double-overtime tie. In his second career start and shutout, Donovan did not miss a beat, controlling the defense as the Big Green shutout the Huskies. He made two saves in goal and used his 6-3 frame to pick off numerous UConn crosses and clear three corner kicks. The rookie withstood a dangerous sequence by the Huskies midway through the first half by saving an attempt by UConn's Mike Pezza and clearing an ensuing corner kick.
Now fifth-ranked Dartmouth takes its four game unbeaten streak to the West coast for the University of San Diego Tournament. The Big Green faces the University of San Diego on Friday, Sept. 18 at 10 p.m. Eastern and Loyola Marymount on Sunday at 2 p.m. Eastern.
