HANOVER, N.H. - The Dartmouth volleyball team defeated Quinnipiac University (0-4) on Tuesday, 3-0. The Big Green is now 2-0 on the season with the victory as Dartmouth hit. 488 for the match. Set scores were 25-17, 25-12, 25-18.
Madeline Baird (Austin, Texas) led the home team in hitting with 13 kills and hit a whopping .684 for the match. Kendall Houston (Austin, Texas) was the top setter on the night with 33 while Amber Bryant (Libertyville, Ill.) and Megan MacGregor (Carlsbad, Calif.) each had double-figure digs with 11 and 10 respectively. Covington and Annie Villanueva (Santa Barbara, Calif.) also recorded terrific hitting percentages as Covington had her second straight game in which she had just one error with a .556 percentage and Villanueva had a .533 percentage.
In the first set, Dartmouth took the lead early and never looked back as the Big Green led by as much as seven points enroute to a 25-17 victory.
The second set was closer in the beginning as Dartmouth was up by one, 6-5 as MacGregor and Morgan Covington (Katy, Texas) recorded a huge block to give the Big Green the lead. Jessie Hartman (Woodside, Calif.) helped lead her team to an 11-5 lead by serving four straight points including back-to-back service aces. A Bobcat timeout at 16-8 did not help as Dartmouth had the next three points and finished with the 25-12 win.
In the final set Quinnipiac kept things tight and led by as much as four in the early going. Houston helped the Big Green bounce back, serving three points before a Baird kill gave Dartmouth the lead in which it did not relinquish until late in the set. Tied at 17-all, Hartman served two points forcing the Bobcats to take a timeout. The next five points wwent to the Big Green before a kill by Villanueva put the match away for Dartmouth.
The Big Green takes to the road on Sept. 11 and 12, traveling to NC State for a tournament. Dartmouth will take on Xavier, Depaul, Rutgers and the host Wolfpack during the two-day tourney.
