BETHLEHEM, PA - The Dartmouth women's cross country team traveled to Lehigh University on Friday and competed at the Paul Short Run. The Big Green finished in the top half of the competition placing 16th out of 41 teams.
Freshman Hannah Rowe (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) was Dartmouth's top competitor as she placed 68th with a time of 21:48. It was the first time Rowe or any other of the Dartmouth freshmen have run 6K. The other placers for the Big Green were junior Amy Schuman (Lee, N.H.) with a time of 21:52, freshman Bridget End (Summit, N.J.) at 22:07, junior Alexi Pappas (Alameda, Calif.) at 22:23 and freshman Arianna Vailas (Manchester, N.H.) at 22:36.
The Big Green were bit by the injury bug on this trip as two of its top performers did not place. Freshman Abbey D'Agostino (Topsfield, Mass.) was injured on Thursday and did not compete in the run, and junior Elizabeth Short (North Reading, Mass.) was unable to finish the race on Friday. Both competitors were projected to place for the Big Green, which hurt the overall team score.
Georgetown finished first in the event with 34 points, a distant second was Virginia with 98 points and James Madison finished third at 169 points. Four other Ivy League teams competed in the race; Cornell finished fourth, Columbia fifth, Brown 12th and Penn in the 15th position. Emily Infeld of Georgetown was the top individual with a time of 20:04.
The Big Green compete on Saturday, Oct. 2, at the Keene Invitational.
