PRINCETON, N.J. — Sophomore Peter Williamson (Hanover, N.H.) fired a three-under 68 in the third and final round of the Princeton Invitational on Sunday, finishing the tournament in seventh place out of 78 participants with a 72-76-68—216 (+3). His performance could not improve Dartmouth's standing among the 15-team field as the Big Green finished 15th despite posting a better team score in each round — 312-308-305—925 (+73).
Yale won the team title by defeating Harvard in a playoff as both ended the 72 holes 22-over par. The Bulldogs' Tom McCarthy took home medalist honors with a three-under par 210, three strokes ahead of Villanova's Brendan Kelly.
Williamson made par on nearly half (35) of his 72 holes and led the field in par-5 scoring at six-under for the tournament. Sophomore Teddy Overton (Paradise Valley, Ariz.) had a fine tournament, tying for 22nd with a 72-75-76—223 (+10) while scoring 10 birdies in the three rounds, one of just eight golfers with at least that many.
Also competing for the Big Green were freshmen James Pleat (Nashua, N.H.) with an 84-77-79—240 (73rd) and Andrew Jankowski (Elkins, N.H.) with an 84-83-83—250 (77th), and junior Dave Putney (Unionville, Conn.) with an 89-80-82— 251 (78th).
Dartmouth has a week off to prepare for the Ivy Championships to be held at Baltusrol Golf Club in New Jersey on April 23-25.
