HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth women's cross country team got the 2010 season started on the right foot, winning its own four-team Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday morning. Junior Amy Schuman (Lee, N.H.) completed the 5K race in 20:23.90 to break the tape first by nearly five seconds and help give a win to coach Sandy Ford-Centonze in her return to coaching cross country and assistant coach Mark Coogan in his first year at Dartmouth.
While Schuman won the race, Williams, Yale and Middlebury all had runners among the top 10 as well. The next Big Green finisher was junior Lizzie Short (North Reading, Mass.) in ninth place at 20:45.94, but she was followed by four other Dartmouth runners to secure the team victory.
Freshman Abbey D'Agostino (Topsfield, Mass.) rounded out the top 10 with a time of 25:49.85, followed by junior Alexi Pappas (Alameda, Calif.) less than a second behind at 20:50.62. The final member of the Dartmouth top five was freshman Bridget End (Summit, N.J.) with a time of 20:51.90, while fellow freshman Hannah Rowe (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) placed 13th overall at 20:53.02.
Dartmouth totaled 43 points as a team with Middlebury coming in second with 49 points. Yale posted 68 points and Williams rounded out the field with 73.
The Big Green will be back on the trails on Oct. 1 at the Paul Short Invitational in Bethlehem, Pa.
