Starting Five
1. Dartmouth hosts the 35th annual Blue Sky Classic this
weekend. The Big Green welcomes return participants LaSalle and Vermont, and
first time participant, Georgetown. The Blue Sky is the longest running women's
basketball collegiate tournament.
2. The Big Green will take on its first ranked opponent this season as Georgetown enters the tournament as the No. 15/16 team in both the AP and Coaches Poll.
3. Dartmouth is looking to snap its current six-game losing streak, which is the longest of the season to date. The Big Green closed the 2010-11 season on a five-game losing streak, which extended to seven games this season. Seven games is the longest losing streak in program history.
4. Big Green freshman Tia Dawson has assumed the position as Dartmouth's defensive leader. Dawson leads the team with 6.2 rebounds. She is also the big Green's leading shot blocker with 2.3 blocks per game, which also leads the Ivy League.
5. Dartmouth is looking for its first home win of the 2011-12 season. The Big Green currently has an 0-3 record at Leede Arena and dropped its first three home games for the first time since the 2007-08 season.
Dartmouth vs. LaSalle
Notables
- Dartmouth and LaSalle are meeting for the second time this
weekend. The last meeting between the teams was back during the 1982-83 season
in the championship game of the Blue Sky Classic.
-LaSalle will be taking on its second Ivy League opponent this season when it faces Dartmouth. The Explorers defeated Penn, 58-47, on Nov. 22 in Philadelphia.
-This will be Dartmouth's second opponent from the A-10. The Big Green took on St. Joseph's (Pa.) at Vermont's TD Bank Classic. St. Joseph's (Pa.) defeated the Big Green, 85-48.
Dartmouth vs. Georgetown
Notables
- Dartmouth and Georgetown are meeting for the second time
in this weekend's game. The last time the teams met was during the 1979-80
season. The Hoyas defeated Dartmouth, 81-71 in Washington, D.C.
-This is Georgetown's first appearance in the Blue Sky Classic. Rutgers, Syracuse, Seton Hall, St John's and Marquette are the other BIG EAST schools that have participated in Dartmouth's annual tournament.
-This will be Dartmouth's second opponent from the BIG EAST. The Big Green played Providence earlier this season. Dartmouth will be Georgetown's only Ivy League opponent this season.
A Win Would ...
1. Snap Dartmouth's six-game losing streak and give the Big
Green its first win at Leede Arena this season. Should the win come against
LaSalle it would move the Big Green to 2-0 versus the Explorers.
2. Should the Big Green defeat Georgetown, it would be Dartmouth's first win over a ranked opponent in program history and its first win over a team from a BSC conference school since defeating Providence in the 2003-04 season.
3. If the Big Green should go 2-0 at the 2011-12 Blue Sky Classic, it would be the Big Green's 11th time going 2-0 in the tournament and the first time Dartmouth captured two wins in the tournament since the 1998 season.
