HANOVER, N.H. — The Ivy League announced its weekly award winners for baseball today, and Dartmouth third baseman
Jeff Keller (Atherton, Calif.) was chosen as the Rookie of the Week. He is the second Big Green player to earn the award this year, joining first baseman/designated hitter
Dustin Selzer (Houston, Texas).
The freshman product of Menlo-Atherton High School clubbed the ball at a .538 clip (7-for-13) during the week with two doubles, two triples, a home run, four walks, five runs and seven RBIs. Keller began the week by tying a school record with two triples in one game, helping Dartmouth defeat Saint Anselm, 5-1. He also added a double to provide eight total bases and drove in two runs in the contest. In the first game of a key Ivy League four-games series against Brown, his solo home run jump-started the rally from a 3-1 deficit in a 7-3 victory. Later that day, he went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs helping the Big Green to an 11-3 triumph and complete a twinbill sweep of the Bears. He ended his week by walking twice in the series finale, scoring after each one, as Dartmouth extended its home winning streak to 21 with an 11-4 win.
The Big Green have had six Ivy weekly award winners this season — tied for the most in the conference with Penn — including a two-time winner in junior right-hander
Kyle Hendricks (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) as the league's Pitcher of the Week. Others to earn a weekly honor are sophomore infielder
Ennis Coble (Atlanta, Ga.) as Player of the Week and senior reliever
Ryan Smith (Greenlawn, N.Y.) as Pitcher of the Week.
Earning a spot on the Honor Roll for the week was senior second baseman
Jeff Onstott (Houston, Texas) for hitting .467 (7-for-15) in the five games with two doubles, a triple, three walks, six runs and six RBIs while playing flawlessly in the field.
Dartmouth (23-10, 10-6 Ivy) plays host to Hartford (3-28-1) on Wednesday in a rescheduled game from last week that was postponed due to rain. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. as the Big Green will attempt to add to their 21-game home win streak, the longest among Division I schools.
