HANOVER, N.H. — The Big Green suffered their first conference loss of the season at Cornell on Saturday, 19-8. Dartmouth scored the first goal of the contest, but the seventh-ranked Big Red controlled the rest of the game. Sophomore Nikki Dysenchuk (Darien, Conn.) led the Big Green with three goals and an assist.
SCOUTING THE BIG GREEN
Dartmouth enters the game at 17th-ranked Yale with a 4-4 record and is 1-1 in the Ivy League. The Big Green are 2-3 on the road this year, and have lost their last three games away from Scully-Fahey Field.
Dartmouth has seven players who have recorded double-digit points through eight games. Junior co-captain Kip Dooley (Minneapolis, Minn.) leads the team with 21 points on eight goals and a team-high 13 assists. Dysenchuk is second on the squad with 11 goals and seven assists for 18 points. Senior captain Rhett Miller (Dallas, Texas) is third with 12 goals and four assists for 16 points. Freshman Jeff Perkins (Dallas, Texas) has 15 points on 12 goals and three assists. Junior Drew Tunney (Greenwich, Conn.) has 14 points on 12 goals and two assists, and junior John DeChiaro (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y) has 12 points on five goals and seven assists. Sophomore Chris Costabile (Sykesville, Md.) rounds out the double-digit scorers with 10 points on eight goals and two assists.
Junior Fergus Campbell (New Canaan, Conn.) has started all eight games at goalkeeper and has an 11.77 goals against average, a 4-4 record and a .485 save percentage. In 433:28 minutes, he has made 80 saves, including a game high 17 two different times.
The team is averaging 10.50 goals per game, while allowing 11.75. The Big Green take 37.5 shots per game and grab 30.25 ground balls per game. Dartmouth is 9-for-24 in man-up situations for a 37.5 percent conversion rate.
EVERY-GAME SCORER
Dooley continued his streak of scoring in every game the Big Green has played this season. He now has 21 points on eight goals and 13 assists. His season high was five points at Holy Cross on two goals and three assists.
Dysenchuk has scored in the last seven games after not recording a point in the season opener.
IVY LEADERS
A little over halfway through the lacrosse season and junior Alex Del Balso (Huntington, N.Y.) leads the conference in ground balls per game. Del Balso averages 5.25 a contest, while also taking a majority of the team's faceoffs. He has taken 172 faceoffs, winning 81.
As a team, the Big Green lead the Ivy League in man-down goals with three. The only other squad with a man-down goal is Harvard with one.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
17th-ranked Yale enters the weekend with a 6-2 overall record and a 1-2 mark in the Ivy League. All three of the Bulldogs conference games have been nail biters. After losing at home to Cornell on March 19, Yale beat Princeton in overtime, 8-7, and then lost at Penn in triple overtime, 10-9. The Bulldogs won at home on Tuesday against Providence, 11-9.
Senior Brian Douglass leads the team with 29 points on 19 goals and 10 assists. Junior Matt Gibson is second with 17 points on nine goals and eight assists, and sophomore Deron Dempster is third with 13 goals and three assists for 16 points.
In the crease, senior Johnathan Falcone has started all eight games and played 439 minutes. He has a 6.96 goals against average, 64 saves, a .557 save percentage and a 6-2 record.
SERIES HISTORY
The two teams will meet for the 81st time on Saturday with Yale leading the series, 46-34. They first met in Hanover on April 23, 1927 with the Bulldogs winning, 12-3. Over the last 10 years, the series has been close with the Big Green holding a slight advantage. Dartmouth holds a 6-4 edge in that span. The Big Green last won at Yale on April 20, 2005.
