NEW HAVEN, CONN. — The Dartmouth men's track and field team finished sixth (42 points) at the Men's Ivy League Outdoor Heptagonal Championship at Yale on Sunday. Princeton won the championship with 197 points, Cornell finished second at 186 points and Brown placed third with 76 points.
Senior David Irving (Manchester, N.H.) had the best finish on Sunday for the Big Green. A day after finishing second in the hammer throw and third in the shot put, he placed third in the discus with a throw of 51.90 meters (170-03.00 feet).
Dartmouth had two athletes take fourth in their individual events. Junior Rob Contuzzi (Northampton, Mass.) took fourth in the decathlon with 6,300 points and sophomore Phil Royer (Portsmouth, R.I.) placed fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:06.25.
The Big Green had two competitors finish in the top 10 in the 1,500 meters. Freshman Steve Mangan (Honeoye Falls, N.Y.) crossed the finish line sixth at 3:59.03, and senior Tom Robbins (Evanston, Ill.) placed ninth at 4:04.49.
In the 110-meter hurdles, sophomore Jacob Evanter (Marblehead, Mass.) finished seventh at 15.17. Senior Joe Lonek (Epping, N.H.) took seventh in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.33. In the 5,000 meters, freshman John Bleday (Westwood, Mass.) placed seventh at 14:29.76. Freshman Ben Nollet (Storrs, Conn.) took eighth in the high jump at 1.92 meters (6-03.50 feet).
The best relay finish for Dartmouth came in the 4x100-meter relay. The combo of senior Muhammed Abdul-Shakoor (Stone Mountain, Ga.), sophomore Tyrone DeSpenza (New Orleans, La.), freshman Jalil Bishop (Twinsburg, Ohio) and sophomore Kevin Crowley (Barrington, Ill.) placed sixth with a time of 42.55.
The Big Green compete at the IC4A's next weekend at Princeton.
