HANOVER, N.H. - On what was a perfect Saturday morning weather-wise at the Hanover Country Club, the Dartmouth men's cross country team posted a perfect score of 15 points at the 2011 Dartmouth Invitational. Senior
Ethan Shaw (Falmouth, Maine) led the way with a first-place finish (21:59), his second in as many years at this event.
But it wasn't just Shaw that had a big day for the Big Green. Sophomore
John Bleday (Westwood, Mass.) finished second in 22:11 and was followed soon thereafter by junior
Jonathan Gault (Bedford, Mass.) in third (22:16), sophomore
Steve Mangan (Honeoye Falls, N.Y.) in fourth (22:21) and junior
Adam Doherty (Lagrangeville, N.Y.) in the fifth-and-final (22:22) scoring slot for Dartmouth.
The team's dominating performance didn't stop with just the top five runners who earned points for the Big Green. Dartmouth had the top nine runners in the race and 16 of the top 21 to finish the shortened four-and-a-half mile course.
Freshman
Dylan O'Sullivan (Harrowsmith, Ont.) finished sixth in 22:25 in his first collegiate race. Senior
Brad Kenimer (Alexandria, Va.) and sophomore
Henry Sterling (South Freeport, Maine) crossed the line seventh and eight, respectively, while senior
Jake Shoemaker (Sudbury, Mass.) was the ninth-place runner overall.
Boston College claimed second place with 64 points. The Eagle's average time of finish of 23:12 was nearly a full minute back of the Big Green's 22:14 average. Middlebury (68 points) and Brown (93 points) rounded out the field Saturday morning.
Dartmouth will now enjoy a three-week break to prepare for its next competition when it heads to Lehigh and the Paul Short Invitational on Friday, Sept. 30.
