Women's Basketball Closes Season at Harvard

The Dartmouth women's basketball team closes the 2011-12 regular season on Tuesday (March 6) when they travel to Cambridge, Mass., to take on rival, Harvard. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Lavietes Pavilion.

1. Junior guard Faziah Steen scored her 1,000th career point
against Columbia on Saturday. She now has 1,010 career points and moves into
the No. 16 spot on Dartmouth's all-time scoring list. She is one of five
players to reach the feat in less than 100 games, needing just 82 games to
reach the milestone.
2. Freshman Milica Toskovic picked up her second Ivy League Rookie of the Week honor by posting her second career double-double against Columbia. She poured in 17 points and added a career-high 13 rebounds to go along with a career-best four assists.
3. With its, 87-52 win over Columbia the Big Green picked up a sweep of Columbia. The Lions are the only team Dartmouth has swept this season. The Big Green has earned splits with Brown and Cornell and is looking for a split against Harvard.
4. Dartmouth had five players in double-figures against Columbia. It marked the first time since the 2008-09 season that Dartmouth had five in double figures. The Big Green also had two double-doubles, for the first time since 2010-11.
5. The Big Green closed the home slate with two wins in its final games to avoid going winless at home. Dartmouth last went winless at home in 1975-76 and has only had eight losing home records in 39 seasons.
Dartmouth vs. Harvard
Notables
-Dartmouth and Harvard are meeting for the 70th time in Tuesday's
contest. Harvard leads the all-time series, 39-30 and has won each of the last
four meeting between the teams, including a 71-63 win in the first meeting at
Leede Arena this season. Dartmouth is looking for its first win on Harvard's
home court since the 2008-09 season.
-Harvard and Dartmouth each have a Detroit Country Day connection. High school teammates Faziah Steen and Harvard's Emma Golen will be going against each other on Tuesday. The pair, along with Cornell's Spencer Lane, teamed to win the Yellowjackets a Class B State Championship as seniors.
-Harvard's head coach Kathy Delaney-Smith and Dartmouth's Chris Wielgus are the two longest tenured coaches in the Ivy League. Delany-Smith is in her 30th season while Wielgus is in her 28th season at Dartmouth.
-Dartmouth and Harvard are historically two of the top teams in the Ivy League and own a combined 28 of the possible 36 Ivy League titles. Dartmouth leads the way with 17 titles and Harvard has 11.
A Win Would ...
1. Give Dartmouth first win over Harvard in the last four
tries and give them their first road win at Harvard since the 2008-09 season.
2. Improve the Big Green to 5-9 in Ivy League action and allow the Big Green to close the season on a three-game wining steak, the longest winning streak this season. Dartmouth will end the season with three consecutive losing seasons, the first three-season skid for the Big Green since 1974-77. Dartmouth has posted 24 winning seasons in program history.
Scouting Harvard
Harvard enters the weekend with a 16-11, 9-4 Ivy League
record after defeating Columbia, 88-64, and Cornell, 65-59, last weekend. The
Crimson clinched the Ivy League's berth to the postseason WNIT by virtue of
finishing in second place in the Ivy League standings. Sophomore Christine
Clarke leads the Harvard offense with 15.3 points per game. She is joined in
double figures by Brogan Berry with 12.1 points per game and Victoria Lippert
with 12.0 points per game. Miriam Rutz leads the way on the glass, pulling down
a team-best 6.3 rebounds per game. Clarke isn't far behind with 5.8 rebounds
per game. Harvard was able to pull away late for a 71-63 win over the Big Green
at Leede Arena in the first meeting on Jan. 14. A Dartmouth win would snap the
Crimson's four-game win streak and give the teams a split this season. Dartmouth
hasn't swept the Crimson since the 2008-09 season when they won the Ivy League
Championship. Head coach Kathy Delaney-Smith is in her 30th season at Harvard.

Named Ivy League Rookie of the Week
Freshman guard Milica Toskovic
earned her second career Ivy League Rookie of the Week honor for her Toskovic
had a career night in Dartmouth's 87-52 win over Columbia. The Santa Monica,
Calif., native picked up her second career double-double with 17 points and a
career-high 13 rebounds against the Lions. Her 17 points also tied her
career-high, which she set at Yale on Feb. 17. She also dished out a
career-best four assists. In Dartmouth's win over Cornell, Toskovic contributed
seven points and nine rebounds just one rebound shy of her third game with
double-figure rebounds.
Steen
on the Ivy League Honor Roll
Junior guard Faziah Steen earned
a spot on the Ivy League honor roll for her record-breaking game against
Columbia. She scored her 1,000th career point and had a team-best 18 points to
go along with six rebounds and five steals. Steen has been on the Ivy League
honor roll 10 of the possible 18 weeks this season.
Double-Double
Times Two
For the first time this season,
the Big Green posted two double-doubles in the same game against Columbia. Tia Dawson picked up her team-leading fifth double-double with 11 points and 11
rebounds and classmate Milica Toskovic added 17 points and 13 rebounds. It was
the first time since the 2010-11 season that two players had double-doubles.
Zimmer
Time
Sophomore guard Nicola Zimmer
was in the zone against Columbia. The point guard tallied a season-high 17
points to go along with five rebounds and seven assists. Zimmer has been in
double figures in each of Dartmouth's last two games and has tallied five or
more assists seven times this season.

Faziah Steen earned her 1,000th
career point against Columbia and became Dartmouth's 16th 1,000-point scorer.
She is one of five Ivy League players to reach the 1,000-point mark this
season.

Moving Up the Career Blocks List
With her two blocks last
weekend, senior forward Sasha Dosenko is sixth on Dartmouth's all-time blocked
shots list and now she has 127 career blocks. She is two blocks away from
moving into the top five all-time.
