HANOVER, N.H. – In just its second game of the 2014-15 season, the Dartmouth women's hockey team posted a 3-0 shutout over Union at Thompson Arena on Friday evening.
The Big Green are now 2-0-0, while winning their ECAC Hockey opener in the process. The Dutchwomen dipped to 1-7-2 and 0-1-0 in conference play.
"I think the energy was good again tonight," head coach Mark Hudak said. "We definitely do need to execute a bit more with some of our system plays. But, for the second game of the year, I am pretty happy."
After sophomore Emma Korbs scored Dartmouth's first marker of the game at 6:54 in the first period with the help of senior Karlee Odland and sophomore Ailish Forfar, the game remained locked at 1-0 until a two-goal Big Green third stanza all but ended the game in favor of the home team.
Taking advantage of a Union penalty 30 seconds beforehand, junior Lindsey Allen increased Dartmouth's lead with the Big Green's second goal of the game at 3:34 in the third, redirecting a shot off her back following passes from classmate Laura Stacey and sophomore Kennedy Ottenbreit. This was Allen's third goal of the season, after finding the back of the net twice last week against New Hampshire.
To close out the scoring for the night, freshman Morgan Turner netted her first collegiate goal 10 minutes later at 14:27, receiving passes from classmates Hailey Noronha and Elena Horton before dumping the puck in the left corner of the net past the outstretching hand of Union's netminder, Shenae Lunderg.
Dartmouth's penalty kill held the Dutchwomen to 0-for-3 with the man advantage. The Green and White outshot the Dutchwomen, 45-13.
In net, sophomore Robyn Chemago posted her first career shutout, totaling 13 saves. Lundberg, had an impressive 42 saves, turning away 14 shots during each of the three periods.
The Green will return to the ice Saturday at 4 p.m. when they host Rensselaer.
