CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – On the last day of Harvard's UTR Metro Open on a chilly Sunday afternoon, Dartmouth men's tennis freshman Aman Agarwal won the 'B' flight against Alex Van Velzer of Army.
“I was happy to see Aman competing well in all four of his singles matches this weekend,” head coach Chris Drake said. “Today, he got off to a slow start, but he hung in there and his competitiveness gave him a chance to win.”
After winning every one of his matches throughout the first two days of the tournament, Agarwal had to fight harder in the final against Van Velzer, who won the first set by a score of 6-2. Agarwal quickly found his momentum and tied things up with a 6-4 second set. In a close third set, Agarwal was victorious, 10-7.
“Overall, our guys made some good progress this weekend,” continued Drake. “Our team has showed a willingness and ability to develop and improve both individually and as a team. We have a long way to go to become the team that we want to be by the end of the year, but they are willing to put in the work to get there.”
The Big Green fared well at the tournament, winning 11 matches in all. Along with Agarwal, sophomore Diego Pedraza also competed in the semifinals.
This was the Green's last event of the fall season. They will return to the court in the spring when they host Buffalo and Bryant on Saturday, Jan. 17.
Finals: Agarwal (Dartmouth) def. Van Velzer (Army), 2-6, 6-4, 10-7
