BANGOR, Maine — Offense was at a minimum on both sides, but costly turnovers and a slow paced game doomed the Dartmouth women's basketball team on Wednesday evening, as they fell to Maine, 53-38, at the Cross Insurance Center.
Junior Lakin Roland led the Big Green (5-3) with 15 points on 7-of-17 from the floor. Sophomore Fanni Szabo had 11 points but was defended heavily during the contest and shot 5-of-11.
"Our defense played well tonight holding Maine's top scorer Liz Wood to seven points," head coach Belle Koclanes said. "It's heartbreaking when you defend for 29 seconds, but then the ball goes in at the buzzer. We needed to score better and control the ball against Maine's zone."
Maine forced 23 turnovers and finished with 27 transition points and netted 26 in the paint. Sigi Koizar led the team with 19 points and seven other teammates also added baskets. Maine (6-3) shot 37 percent overall and hit 13-of-15 from the charity stripe.

The Black Bears increased the lead on their second triple of the half by Bella Swan.
