HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – A pair of first-half goals gave the Dartmouth men's soccer team its first win of the season, defeating Hofstra, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon at the HU Soccer Stadium.
“We played close to a complete 90 minute game,” head coach Chad Riley said. “ Credit to Hofstra who made adjustments at the half. This was a character win for our group, who took things from last weekend and used them today. We are all about improving as the non-conference schedule moves on towards Ivy League play.”
Seniors Alex Adelabu and Robin Alnas scored their first goals of the season for the Green and White, who out played the Pride over 90 minutes. The Big Green came away with a 14-13 edge in shots and an 8-7 lead in corner kicks.
Junior Stefan Cleveland made five saves after he allowed Hofstra's only tally in the 53rd minute. The hosts used a pair in net, as Patric Pray was dealt the loss after he allowed two goals in 45 minutes. Brian McPartland made two saves in relief.
Dartmouth took its first lead of the season in the 15th minute as freshman Tyler Dowse sent a pass to Adelabu, who then flicked a ball over a defender and used his head to push it over the line for his first of the season.
The Green and White increased their margin in the 39th minute off a cross by senior Hugh Danilack from the left side to Alnas.
Hofstra answered and cut the deficit in half on a give and go from Elliott Firth to Joseph Holland.
Dartmouth will make its home debut on Friday evening, as UMass Lowell makes the trip to the Upper Valley for a 7:30 p.m. start.
