It's Ivy Season, Boo-yah
After the 14-game non-conference schedule has come and gone, the Big Green sit with a 9-5 record heading into the longest playoff system in the NCAA, the Ivy League season. Dartmouth is looking for its first winning season since 2008-09, the last time the Big Green made the NCAA Tournament.
You Ain't Gotta Go Home, But You Gotta Get The Heck Outta Here
This season, the Big Green hold an impressive 5-0 record at Leede Arena through non-conference play. The last time the team had a .500 or better record at Leede Arena was in 2009-10, when the team went 6-6. In 08-09, the squad won nine games in the Upper Valley and the last time there was a double-digit home win total was in 2006-07.
As Cool as the Other Side of the Pillow
Sophomore Fanni Szabo leads the Big Green once again this season and sits in the top-10 in many Ivy League categories. Szabo is second in scoring in the Ancient Eight at 18.2 points per game, first in minutes played (36.8), fourth in steals (2.0), seventh in free throw percentage (74.4), 11th in 3-point field goals made and 17th in rebounds (5.5). On the national scale, Szabo is 57th in scoring. In 14 games this season, Szabo has dropped double-digit figures in all but two games and had a season-best 31 points against Holy Cross on Nov. 20.
Scouting Harvard
The Crimson have dropped three of their last four games — all to .500 or better squads. At 6-7, the Crimson are looking to pick up a win after falling to Louisiana Tech, Florida Gulf Coast and CUT Chattanooga. Temi Fagbenle leads the charge in Cambridge at 14.4 points and 11.2 rebounds per game. Erin McDonnell and Annmarie Healy also average double-figures on the season.
She Treats Her Like a Dog. Sit. Stay.
Freshman point guard Amber Mixon played a key role in the win over Oakland netting five points and collecting eight rebounds. Of the five points, Mixon made two fantastic drives to hoop bypassing her defender on both occasions. She also added three dimes in the contest with one turnover.
They Call 'em the Windex Crew 'Cause They Always Cleaning the Glass
In the win over Oakland, Dartmouth finished with three players collecting eight rebounds each. This was the first time this season the Big Green had more than two players lead the group in boards. Junior Lakin Roland leads the squad with 9.5. As a team, the Big Green are pulling down an average of 38.6 rebounds per night.
Non-Conference Completed With Home Win
Sophomore Fanni Szabo led all scorers with 21 points as Dartmouth defeated Oakland, 59-54. Junior Lakin Roland added 13 points and had eight rebounds and six other players netted single-digit points in the win. Dartmouth picked up 17 points off turnovers and had 28 points in the paint.
Big Green Secure Win Number Eight at URI
Roland and Szabo each scored 16 points as the Dartmouth Big Green held on to defeat Rhode Island, 54-44, at the Ryan Center. Roland's 16-point performance was also her sixth double-double of the year as she finished with a team-high 10 rebounds. Sophomore Katie Vareika put in her fourth double-figure performance of the season with 12 points, all from the outside in 28 minutes off the bench. Senior Milica Toskovic added five points and eight rebounds.
Letkewicz Named Ivy Rookie of the Week
Dartmouth women's basketball freshman Kate Letkewicz was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week after a season-high nine points in a win over Niagara. Letkewicz finished a perfect 3-of-3 from the outside in 16 minutes off the bench for the Big Green who won their seventh game of the season. The Waterloo, Iowa, native was credited with an assist to give her team a 13-point lead on a three-pointer by Toskovic in the first half.
Meet The Big Green
The Big Green return eight players from last season, while welcoming five newcomers to the roster.
Big Green Picked Sixth in Ivy Poll
Dartmouth was chosen tied for sixth place in the Ivy League preseason poll as announced by the League office on Oct. 28. Defending Ivy League champion Penn and previous league winner Princeton both received 123 votes for a share of the top spot. The Tigers though were granted nine first-place votes, while the Quakers had seven. Harvard was chosen third and also received one first-place nod. Yale secured fourth place, followed by Cornell, Dartmouth and Columbia in sixth, respectively and Brown in eighth.
