HANOVER, N.H. – The No. 10 Dartmouth women's hockey team fell to St. Lawrence, 4-2, at Thompson Arena on Friday evening, following a first period that featured four goals scored in a 12-minute span.
The Big Green dipped to 1-1-0 and 1-1-0 in conference action, while the Saints improved to 4-5-1 and picked up their first ECAC Hockey victory of the season.
“I thought we played a decent game tonight,” head coach Mark Hudak said. “I didn't think we executed on some little things that are important, but I certainly expect that to change as we get more games under our belts. Playing a team that has 10 games already exposed us to that, but overall, I'm pretty happy with our play.”
Five Dartmouth players ended the night with a point apiece. Seniors Lindsey Allen and Ailish Forfar found the back of the net, while classmate Laura Stacey, junior Kennedy Ottenbreit, sophomore Brooke Ahbe and freshman Tess Bracken earned assists.
Megan Armstrong opened scoring at 3:42 in the first, but the visitors did not enjoy a lead for long, as Allen scored her second of the season less than three minutes later, flicking the puck to the left of Mika Thompson from directly outside the net just 11 seconds into the power play.
Forfar gave Dartmouth its first lead at 11:45, burying the puck in the left corner after her initial shot was deflected by Sonjia Shelly, but St. Lawrence would tie it up at 16:06 with a Kirsten Padalis marker.
After such a fast-paced first period, the second was a little quieter, even though a combined 19 shots were taken. At 15:46, Alex Moore broke the tie and gave the Saints a one-goal lead heading into the third period with her power-play tally that flipped over junior Robyn Chemago's left shoulder and settled in the cage.
The Green fought hard to tie the score in the third, but fell short. At 19:38, Amanda Boulier scored an empty netter to put a comeback by the home team out of reach.
Dartmouth outshot St. Lawrence, 29-22, and were 2-for-5 on the power play, while the Saints went 2-for-3. Shelly ended up with 27 saves to earn the win, while Chemago had 18 stops.
The Big Green will return to Thompson on Saturday for a 3:30 game against No. 5/4 Clarkson.
